Meeting
The DHA Board had its second November meeting the 17th, noon, at the Kountry Kookin' Cafe. Board members present: Melanie Parsons, Toots Peterson, Lester Lauritzen, and Grant Petersen, Sr. Also Richard Skola and Palmer and Marjorie Peterson.
The November sixth supper was reviewed. Reports were that those attending enjoyed themselves. Some said it brought back memories of their youth.
Winter use of the museum building was discussed, including furnace (fuel) heating, vs. electrical, vs. closing and draining pipes. For the time being, low maintenance heat by furnace, plus electrical supplement for host in office, and the rest room; warming some when open for viewers.
Potential uses of the museum include meetings, having classes (Danish foods, art, genealogy, etc.)
Saturday, December 11 was designated a work day at the museum, to clear unwanted items from the northwest room and the basement. Men (and women) are requested to help move this stuff out. Contact Palmer Peterson (326-5318) or just show up.
Moving some of the display cases to down the center of the main room will soon be needed.
The Christmas Tree Contest for January 2 plans were slightly revised. Suggested decorating categories include: Scandinavian (formerly Danish), Viborg, Religious, and People's Choice. Entry fee is $10 per tree. Trees may be real or artificial, four feet tall or less. The best three trees will receive cash prizes. Trees may be brought in starting Sunday, December 26, and through New Year's Day, January 1, any time the museum is open (see calendar), or by appointment with Richard Skola, 766-5675, or Lester Lauritzen, 563-2732 (half-hour delay).
Trees will be on display through January 2, with viewing and judging 2 to 5:30 p.m. January 2nd.
Richard Skola presented for the Board's approval, a draft of a letter from VHS graduates to the VHS Alumni, to be enclosed with the all-school reunion (Danish Days 2005) notice that will be mailed sometime in the future. Approved with minor corrections.
