Meeting

The DHA Board of Directors met at the Kountry Kookin' Cafe at noon, Wed. Nov. 20. Present were directors Melanie Parsons, Toots Peterson, Lester Lauritzen, and Grant Petersen, Sr. Dep. States Att. Tiffani Hoeke was a visitor. Mrs. Hoeke has for DHA a 1897 Ed. of a Biographical History of the counties of Turner, Lincoln, Clay and Union. Discussion centered on the DHA catered supper and metal-art raffle, Nov. 6, 6:30 p.m. at the museum. An adv. is to be placed in the Viborg Enterprise and the Trumpet.

Lynn Peterson's metal art for the raffle to be placed on display at Merchant's State Bank in Viborg. Tickets will be available at the bank, from Melanie Parsons, Toots Peterson, Grant Petersen, Sr., John Overby, and, when open, at the museum.

A small heater may be placed in Toots Peterson's display room, prior to the supper and raffle night.

The organ in the museum chapel has been repaired. The Board established a museum policy that the organ is not to be played without permission, and not as a toy.

Added to the museum's open calendar, is Wed., Oct. 27, 2 to 8 p.m. for convenience of people attending "Soup Day and Country Store" at neighboring First Baptist Church.

Some winterizing of the country school was discussed. Readers are reminded that much additional funding is needed if the school building is to be moved to Viborg before it deteriorates; as well as the general fund's continuing need.

The board will have an extra pre-supper/raffle meeting on Oct. 27, noon, Kountry Kookin' Cafe. The next regular meeting is Nov. 3, same time, same place.

The board reminds members and friends of the museum that all are welcome to attend meetings and contribute to the work of DHA's museum development. Reminder: DHA has a Christmas Tree Contest, in the museum, prior to the Taste of Danish supper at the Community building. Trees are to be natural, no more that 3 ft. tall, and no lights. Entries $10 per tree; 85% of entries to go to winners. Categories: Most Danish; Most Viborg; Most Religious; and People's Choice.

About History

LRL introductory note: A new information category "About History" will contain quotes and information upon the content and importance of preserving historical information, and some collected "how to" therefore. This project started maybe 20 years or so ago when I was actively researching my families' histories, and how to organize them. It was to be an appendix to those histories. That project became dormant prior to DHA's inception, and continues dormant. Most of the life of DHA News, it has been my intent to share this collected information in DHA News. Up until now, interesting and dated Daneville/Viborg information has been deemed to have priority. At the present, such readers' contributions have dwindled, and in a few cases, need further research prior to using. More such recollections and questions are needed.

"About History" will include quotations by the famous and some not famous, and information upon the importance of preserving family, local and extended historical information. It will include information of the importance of, and how-to of, keeping records, including diaries logs, journals, memoirs, records (family, church, school, organizational, business, and government, etc.)

The following chart, showing combinations of family relationships, was found in the back of the Jorgensen Family History, on exhibit in the DHA Museum.
