DHA LXIII
(5/13/2004)

An extra DHA board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the museum. Bring your own supper.

The regular May meeting of the DHA Board was Wednesday, the 5th at the museum.

Prior to the meeting, Karen Reier, representing Wells Fargo Bank, was present for a "photo-op" to present DHA with a contribution. Look for it elsewhere in the Enterprise.

Present for the meeting: Board members Melanie Parsons, John Overby, Lester Lauritzen, and Grant Petersen, Sr. Also DHA member Palmer Peterson, Everet Fredricks, Vibog, and John Hopf, Yankton, representing a model railroad club headquartering in Yankton, were present to discuss a model RR display they are planning for the museum, showing the Great Northern RR in the Daneville area.

Julie Edelman, representing Danish Days, was present for a portion of the meeting.

Melanie reported investigations underway for some means of securing grants and larger donations.

On motion of John Overby, seconded by Grant Peterson, it was voted that Pres. Melanie Parsons, and Treas. Lester R. Lauritzen were authorized to borrow money to continue the repair and development of the building into a museum.

A second country school, possibly in better condition, was mentioned as a potnential addition to the museum complex.

Liquid spray-on vinyl siding was discussed.

Some progress may be underway in obtaining Daneville picture postcards as souvenirs and fund-raiser for DHA. Also, possibly raffling donated local art creations. And an auction of some unneeded material from the building.

It is DHA's wish that it will be possible to start putting artifacts and archivals in the museum building about June first. Notice of when the delivery of archivals will be reported in the first possible issue.

DELAYED: A portion of the April 22 meeting (April 29 issue) did not get delivered to the Enterprise. Some excerpts therefrom follow.

Discussion with Danish Days representatives Julie Edelman and Paul Christensen and Boy Scouts leader Everet Fredricks tentatively set a joint program at the museum, to include: dedication of the museum building by DHA; the Annual Danish Days Recognition event by the DD Committee, this year for members of the Glood families (an estimated 40-50 may attend); and nameing of the basement room, to be used by the Boy Scouts, as "Walter O. Knudsen Memorial Boy Scout Center."

Paul Christensen suggested that a portion of the Danish Days 2004 Medallions (RR Depot this year) be available for purchase at the museum this year, for convenience of museum visitors. They also have a few of the 2003 (first year) medallions available for anyone that did not start a collection with last year's issue.

A couple of flag poles are available for DHA's use. (They have been delivered. Nice!)

Correction: April 15, 2004, issue: correct Shirley to Sherrie Oswald.
