DHA LXI
(4/29/2004)
An extra April meeting of the DHA Directors was held in the museum, starting with self-provided supper. Present were board members Melanie Parsons, "Toots" Peterson, Lester Lauritzen, and Grant Petersen, Sr. Others included: Mrs. Grant Petersen, Palmer and Marjorie Petersen, Roberta Rasmussen, Evert Fredricks representing the Boy Scouts, and Julie Edelman and Paul Christensen representing the Danish Days Committee.
The meeting lasted about two hours, with much reported, discussed, and planned.
Work on the electrical service, especially lighting, is in progress. Track lighting promises to provide needed flexibility for future displays in the museum.
A usable country schoolhouse is believed available, and Dr. Mark, owner of land north of the museum, reportedly had no objection to such being placed upon his property. Also mentioned was the possibility of obtaining a log building from the Irene area.
It is expected that as displays are received, arrangements will vary, with some being enlarged to accommodate new additions.
Everet Fredricks reported that the Scouts had removed the lumber portion of the dock at the rear of the museum, with the posts to be pulled soon. The Scouts continued to clean the room in the basement. They have installed a needed handrail for the stairs to the basement.
Chairman Melanie Parsons reported that DHA had received from the IRS approval as a tax-deductable entity for donations mate to DHA. Attorney Ward had commented that the approval came unusually quickly.
Remaining sidewalk and adjoining curbside concrete will be poured as soon as weather permits. It was reported that the city street department is studying means of eliminating the standing water at the curb in front of the museum.
Interior adaption for museum use continues. Residing of part of the south side, some immediate roof repairs, are to continue as time and funding permits.
Palmer Peterson reported that State Rep. B.J. Nesselhuf had taken photos of the museum building for submission to the Deadwood, SD, gambling tax fund for preservation of historic buildings, for a possible grant to DHA.
It was decided that at this time, DHA's participation in a heritage fair at Alcester was a bit beyond what DHA can handle right now, and a bit far away to draw many to Viborg.
DHA is to have some Danish food available during the Danish Days.
The next meeting of the DHA Board, a regular meeting, will be May 5 at the museum building at 6:30 p.m. Bring your own supper. DHA members and visitors welcome.
