DONORS COMMENTS
I'm happy to be able to participate in a small way to help preserve the history of Viborg. Keep up the Good Work.
-Dennis D. Reinholt.
With the contribution from Dean and Beverly (Flint) Nelson, of Port Lodlow, WA., Dean sent some information.
"We enjoy your articles in the Enterprise about the history of Viborg and appreciate what (DHA) and you are doing.
"Several years ago, we were reframing an old picture we received from my folks, Hadley and Ida Nelson. Upon removing the picture from the frame, we found behind it a page from an old Viborg Fine Art Calendar. It was in perfect condition and listed the members of the Viborg Commercial Club at that time. Unforunately, it did not give the year of the calendar, but we have placed it somewhere in the 1940s.
"I'm sure someone there can narrow it down more than that from their knowledge of when certain businesses started and ended. We gave the original to Lyle and Jackie Peterson a few years ago, before the Daneville Heritage Museum existed. We thought it was better for someone in Viborg to have it. I have enclosed a copy that is not very good, but Lyle and Jackie probably will let you copy the original (Yet, they did--LRL). The younger generations should find the telephone numbers interesting; for example, the number for the Viborg Enterprise was 8."
Thank you to: Hadley and Ida Nelson for saving that picture, and for, purposefully or accidentally, saving the Commercial Club list there-with. To Dean and Beverly Nelson for recognizing the value of preserving those names. And to Lyle and Jackie Peterson for safe-keeping them and permitting DHA to make copies for the Enterprise and for its files. Without such interested and dedicated people, the work of DHA would be difficult or impossible.
A couple of hours research in the Viborg Centennial book tend to set the date from 1940-1945, but does not prove a definite year. Dr. Kemper's hospital is listed. On page 45 it is given as 1943 - 1959, and on page 106, 1940-59. J. M. Rasmussen is listed as elected Mayor in 1935, and, apparently continued to 1945. And Peter Henricksen is listed, and on page 64, says he closed his store in 1944. Can anyone give the exact year? Does anyone have a copy of that calendar? Or any others?
To save space in Enterprise the sponsors' list was reduced from its original 10" x 14" flexible, tan, wood-grain cover material. It is protected by a saran-like clear plastic, and surprising good machine copies came from it.

Should there be sufficient interest, I wonder if it would be possible for the Viborg bus to take people who do not drive to some of those places?
