DHA XLVII
(2/19/2004)

A fortunate lull between snow storms permitted the Board of The Daneville Heritage Association to meet at noon, Wednesday, February 4, at the newly reopened Kountry Kookin Cafe. Attending were directors Melanie Parsons, Alphie "Toots" Peterson, Lester Lauritzen, and Grant Petersen, Sr. Also attending were Palmer Petersen and Duane Straney.

Work in the museum continues. Volunteers who are willing to donate some time, such as for carpentry, painting, cleaning, etc., please contact Palmer Peterson (325-5318).

Additional heating is needed, with a propane unit being considered. A donated heater is possible.

Help will be sought, through "facilitator" Nancy Larsen at Marion, in designing the layout of displays to fit the building, then help in designing electical service to accomodate. This will serve as basis for electrical conditions survey and updating design bids or estimates for work to be done.

Repair and insulation of the south wall, including the area of fire damage last April, is planned.

Also discussed was seeking possible grants or other sources of needed extensive funding.

That "lull" between snow storms, was too short, however, to permit preparation and delivery of this DHA news to the Viborg Enterprise, the first of such situation since its start over a year ago.

To date, no embarrassing errors have been called to my attention. With the recent appearance of memorials, please carefully use correct and proper terminology: "In memory of" only for someone that has died; for a living person, please be sure to use only "In honor of"! Also, be sure to write or print plainly, and use correct and intended names, addresses, amounts, and other information.

Including a listing of potential contributions of artifacts and archival information is encouraged. Also, enclosing recollections and questions for DHA news readers is welcome. Or, send directly to the address at the head of each week's news.
